William "Gerry" Winner

William “Gerry” Gerard Winner, 78, of Clubhouse Road, LaVale, died Saturday, April 30, 2022 at UPMC Western Maryland, Cumberland. Born on August 17, 1943 in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late, Vernard F. Winner and Kathleen M. (Rafferty) Winner.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John “Lum” Winner and Bernard “Bud” Winner and three sisters, Rose Marie Montgomery, Veronica E. Beckner and Mary Winner.

Gerry was a graduate of Valley High School and veteran of the U.S. Army. He spent 35 years with the Maryland State Police, retiring as a Lieutenant. He was a former member of the F.O.P. and a current member of the Maryland Trooper Association. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Winner; two children, Andrew Winner of Westminster, Carrie Winner of Thurmont; two stepchildren, Paula Healey and Dennis Ashby; three grandsons, Jacob Winner and wife Grace, Lucas Winner and Dalton Winner; two brothers, James Winner and wife Betty Lou of Lonaconing, Robert “Hank” Winner and wife Barbara of Georgia; three sisters, Libby Woods of Cumberland, Kay Larkin of Cumberland and Sister Kathleen Bernard of Pennsylvania and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 4-7 PM at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. A funeral service will follow with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating.
