RMCS, William F. Keenan, 75, of Linda Way, LaVale died on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Devlin Manor, Cumberland from complications from Lung Cancer. Born on October 11, 1938 in Groton, CT he was the son of the late Frank Keenan and Anne (Oviatt) Keenan.
He was preceded in death by his wife Zella May Keenan on June 1, 2012, sister and brother-in-law Lucy M. Hima and Dennis Hima and nephew Dennis Hima, a retired US Navy Master Diver.
William graduated from Robert E. Fitch Senior High School, Groton, CT part of the class of 1956, the first graduating class. He was a Veteran of the US Navy serving in the Vietnam War. He retired from the US Navy in 1983 after 26 years of service. He also had a 20 year career in high tech fields in Virginia. He enjoyed woodcarving, reading and attending Navy reunions. He was an avid Redskins and Capitals fan.
He was a member of VFW Post #1411, Cumberland, MD, American Legion Post #24, Frostburg, MD and the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 172, Cumberland, MD.
William is survived by his daughter, Deborah Keenan of Chatilly, VA; two cousins, Maryann LaFlamme of Gales Ferry, CT and Terry Coleman and husband Ben of Mystic, CT; a nephew, George Hima of Baton Rouge, LA and many other, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Midland on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Harry Burchell officiating. Interment will be held Frostburg Memorial Park. Military Rites will be accorded by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #172, Cumberland.
At the request of the family memorial donations may be made in William's memory to the American Cancer Society at 182 N. Mechanic Street, Cumberland, MD 21502.
