Thomas "Bob" Nightengale

Thomas "Bob" Robert Nightengale, 65, of Lonaconing died December 24, 2010 at his home on 31 Jackson Street where he was born on April 18, 1945. Bob was cared for at his home on Jackson Street by his wife and children in the last days of his life.
Bob was the son of the late Daniel Thomas Nightengale and Agnes Reed (Thompson) Nightengale. He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Nightengale; sisters-in-law, Elaine Nightengale and Donnie Nightengale; and brothers-in-law, Jennings Hott and John Smith.
Bob was a 1964 graduate of Valley High School. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves, 336 Military Police and retired in 2009 from Nightengale and Sons, a new construction and home improvement business he started in 1980. Prior to the construction business Bob worked at both the Celanese Fiber Corp. and the Kelly Springfield Tire Co. located in Cumberland. Although he was a very private man he would have done anything to help a person and had a bigger heart than one could imagine. Bob loved to farm, especially feeding his animals, including cattle, chickens and pigs. He enjoyed spending time planting a garden, antiquing, hunting and spending time at Savage River. Bob like to woodwork and made furniture for his family. He will be remembered as a great dad and grandfather. He was exceptionally fond of his grandchildren; they were the apple of his eye. His grandson, Nathaniel, spent many nights with him on sleepovers and trips to WalMart where he was given his own way one too many times. His youngest granddaughter, Bailie, took after her Pappy Bob, in being very quiet.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharon Ann (Robertson) Nightengale; his three children, Chris Nightengale and wife Amy of Lonaconing, Troy Nightengale and wife Terri of Lonaconing and Trina Warnick and husband Troxell of Moscow; eight grandchildren, Jesse, Nicole, Courtney, Kirstie, Connor, and Cody Nightengale and Bailie and Nathaniel Warnick;  three sisters, Shirley Smith of Barton, Norma Jean Daniels and husband Charles of Lonaconing and Louise Hott of Cumberland; four brothers, William Nightengale of Frostburg, Danny Nightengale and wife Millie of LaVale, Woody Nightengale of Lonaconing and Jack Nightengale and wife Emma of Lonaconing; sister-in-law, Shirley Nightengale of Fayettville, NC; numerous nieces and nephews including special niece, Leslie Nightengale of Lonaconing.
The family would like to thank Western Maryland Home Hospice for the special care that they provided for Bob, especially Cheryl Tillman, RN.
A memorial scholarship will be established in his name. Donations can be mailed to Sharon Nightengale, PO Box 44, Lonaconing, MD 21539.
There will no viewing or services. At his request he was cremated. Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home P.A. ( www.eichhornmckenzie.com ), Lonaconing handled the arrangements.
