Thomas William “Bill” Patton, 87, of Lower George’s Creek Road, Lonaconing, died Thursday, August 6, 2020 at his residence. Born on August 21, 1932 in Lonaconing he was the son of the late Alexander and Sarah Catherine (McCormick) Patton.
He was preceded in death by his brother Alex Edward Patton. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing where he sat on the official board for many years. A graduate of Central High School, class of 1951, he retired from the Celanese after 32 years of service in the spinning department. He became a member of the Rising Sun Lodge #86 Knights of Pythias on April 7, 1962. He was a member for over 58 years. In 1986-1987 he achieved the honor of Past Grand Chancellor of the state of Maryland. He also achieved the rank of the Degree of the Golden Spur, which is the highest honor you can receive as a member of the Knights of Pythias. He was a member of Morning Star Temple #1 Pythian Sisters and a member of the board for the Dan’s Mt. Vol. Team. He was a member the Lonaconing Senior Citizens organization and was enshrined into the Maryland Senior Citizen’s Hall of Fame in 2012.
He survived by his beloved wife Shirley Jean (Lucas) Patton, having been wed for nearly 67 years this December; his daughter Catherine Ann Jenkins and partner Joe Mullenax; grandson “Billy” Warnick Jr.; three great-grandchildren Lazarus, Liam and Lyssa; numerous nieces and nephews and close family friend, who was like a daughter to him Janice McClintock.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 from 5-9 PM at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 PM by the Rising Sun Lodge #86 Knights of Pythias. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing, with Pastor Heerak Kim and Rev. Bernadette Ross officiating. Interment will take place at Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg.
Pallbearers will be Jack Gowans, Eb Spiker, Carleton Robertson, Henny Stafford, Jim Ritchie and Bob Foote. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Mullenax, Billy Warnick, Tom Patton, James Ternent, Bill Kimble, and Larry Vanmeter.
