Terry "Smiley" Meyers, 55, of Barton, died Thursday, January 29, 2015 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 25, 1959 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late "Gus" Albert Meyers and Dixie Lee (Truly) Meyers.
Smiley was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, "Murph" Frank and Mid Truly of Barton and by his paternal grandparents, Augustus and Anna Meyers of Midland.
He graduated from Valley High School, class of 1977. Smiley previously worked out of the Laborers Local Union #616. He was past fireman with the Barton Hose Co., a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Barton Post #189, a member of the Dogwood Flat Rod and Gun Club and The Patch.
Smiley enjoyed gardening and canning, horseshoes, fishing, golf and hanging out with his friends. He was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins, Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Capitals.
Smiley is survived by his son, Joseph Lee Meyers of Chicago, IL and a daughter, Katie Marie Meyers of Stafford, VA. Also surviving are brothers, Dale Meyers of Lonaconing and Phil Meyers and companion Dee of Barton; along with many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Smiley also leaves behind many good friends and a very special friend, Cleaver Smith of Barton.
At Smiley's request his body will be cremated.
A gathering of family and friends will he held at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 6-9PM. Inurnment will be at held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills at a later date.
