Steven Lee Shockey, 70 of St Mary’s Church Terrace, Lonaconing, Maryland, died Friday, December 27, 2024, at UPMC Western Maryland. Born on February 11, 1954, he was the son of the late Thomas E. Shockey and Wanda J. (Wilson) Shockey.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John “Tom” Shockey, sister-in-law, Jeanie Shockey, and father-in-law, Robert L. Alkire.
Steve was a 1972 graduate of Valley High School where he excelled in sports. He worked for the Kelly Springfield Tire Company, Bayliner Marine Corp., and retired from the State of Maryland as a correctional officer. After retirement Steve worked as a golf ranger at Rocky Gap Golf Course.
Steve is survived by his wife, Vickie Alkire Shockey, and son, Aaron P. Shockey, brothers, Denny Shockey and Wayne Shockey (Marion), sister, Cindy Smith (Billy), brothers-in-law, Mark Alkire (Becky) and Steve Alkire (Penny), sister-in-law, Nancy Yates (Danny), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Steve was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lonaconing, and the Georges Creek Valley Lodge No. 161 AF&AM where he held various positions including Worshipful Master.
Throughout his lifetime Steve was a high school basketball and soccer referee, he enjoyed playing softball, coaching Aaron’s youth sports teams, watching Aaron participate in sporting events, running, taking long walks, camping, annual trips to the beach, and traveling with his close group of friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with family. He was an avid golfer and loved playing with Aaron and his golf buddies. Steve was a passionate Penn State football, Chicago Bears football and Boston Bruins hockey fan.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Marjorie Hurder-Buhrman officiating. Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing is assisting the family.
