Stephen “Steve” Morton Timney, 81, of Island Street, Lonaconing, died Monday, December 30, 2024 at his home. Born on November 27, 1943 in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Genevieve (Morton) and Thomas Timney.
Steve was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves; he retired after 30 years of service to his country as Sergeant Major. For 40 years he worked as a multicraft maintenance worker for MeadWestvaco before retiring in 2005. He was a member of Georges Creek Valley Lodge #161 A.F.&A.M., Lonaconing and the American Legion Post #189, Barton. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing.
He enjoyed time spent with family and his morning coffee buddies. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and, in the past, assisted with the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed woodworking and made various wooden crafts including his log cabins.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, June (Hess) Timney; two children, Krista Timney of Radford, VA and Steve Timney and wife Kari of Fairmont, WV; his one and only grandson, Jake Timney of Frostburg, “the best thing that ever happened to him” and his brother, Thomas Timney and wife Toby of Mountain Lake Park.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. Memorial services will be held by the Barton American Legion Post #189 at 12:30 PM and the Georges Creek Valley Lodge #161 at 12:45 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 PM with Ronnie Morton officiating. Interment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
At the request of the family donations in memory of Steve may be given to the charity of your choice.
