Sarah "Sally" Kirkwood

Sarah “Sally” Kirkwood, 88, of New Georges Creek Road, Frostburg, died Friday, August 30, 2024 in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 3, 1936 in Barton, she was the daughter of the late William H. Hyde and Daisy (Cunningham) Hyde.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Clara Ann Rhodes and William “Bill” Hyde. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Sally was a 1954 graduate of Valley High School and worked as an administrative assistant. She was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she sang joyfully in the choir for many years. In her spare time, she worked on crossword puzzles and read many books. She also enjoyed long Sunday drives, traveling with her loving husband to Hawaii and Washington state, and going on bus trips with friends. Most of all her life centered around her family; she was happiest hosting family gatherings in her home.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert “Ted” Edward Kirkwood; three sons, Robert Gregory Kirkwood and wife Milissa of Middletown, MD, Bruce Alan Kirkwood and wife Linda of Frostburg and Steven Scott Kirkwood and wife Bobbie of Frostburg; six grandchildren, Lauren Munson and husband Nick, Jake Kirkwood and wife Cece, Gage Kirkwood, Kendall Kirkwood, Cady Kirkwood Rankin and husband Chuck, and Tyler Kirkwood.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 12- 2PM at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating. Interment will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
