Sarah Elizabeth (Shockey) Ravenscroft, 101, formerly of Furnace Street, Lonaconing died on July 20, 2016 at Egle Nursing Home. Born on December 23, 1914 in Lonaconing she was the daughter of the late John Edward Shockey and Clara Virginia (Teasdale) Shockey.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer B. Ravenscroft on September 15, 1976, a grandson Paul Ravenscroft, granddaughter Cathy Ravenscroft, son-in-law Roy Lambert and daughter-in-law Cathy Ravenscroft. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Eva K. Watkinson, Florence M. Duckworth, Charles C. Shockey, Bessie E. Beeman, John H. Shockey, James T. Shockey, Thomas E. Shockey, William H. Shockey, Robert G. Shockey, Viola V. Loar, Ellsworth J. Shockey and Hazel L. Kennerly.
Sarah was a homemaker and member of the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing. She has been a member of the church since 1938 and part of the choir for many years.
She is survived by her five children, Norma Lambert of Westminster, William “Bill” Ravenscroft of Hagerstown, John Elmer Ravenscroft and wife Shirley of Lonaconing, Richard “Dick” Ravenscroft of Lonaconing and Robert “Bob” Ravenscroft and wife Judy of Midland; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Bell of Lonaconing and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 7-9PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 11:00AM with Rev. Fred Iser officiating. Interment will be held at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Garrett County.
At the request of the family memorial donations may be made in Sarah’s memory to the First United Methodist Church at 15 Church Street, Lonaconing, MD 21539 or the Egle Nursing Home at 57 Jackson Street, Lonaconing, MD 21539.
