Sandra E. "Sandy" (Stevenson) Martin of Conway SC and formerly of Hagerstown went to be with God on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Sandy was born January 26, 1946 in Lonaconing to the late Almer and Betty (Phillips) Stevenson. After graduating from Valley High School, she went on to graduate from cosmetology school and worked as an amazing hairdresser. On March 22, 1975 she married the love of her life Bernard "Butch" Martin. They went on to have one daughter, Amanda "Mandy" (Martin) Vandivier. While Sandy suffered from many debilitating diseases, she always was a wonderful wife and mother, and frequently the life of the party. Her cheery spirit brightened everyone around her. She also grew to be a strong Christian. Her loving ways led her to pray for many people every day. She was a gift from God, and she was taken away suddenly and painlessly by an aneurysm. She is now in Heaven, living pain-free, and reunited with her beloved “Little Daddy.” She is survived by her husband of 36 years, her daughter and son-in-law, Frank (who she adopted into the family and loved as a son), her mother Betty, four brothers (Gordon, James, Thomas, and Robert), and many other loving family members and friends.
Family and friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Midland on Friday, July 29, 2011 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A service celebrating her life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 1 PM with the Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating. Interment will be held at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Covenant Counseling Ministries at 907 Seton Drive, Cumberland, MD 21502. If expressions of sympathy are taking the form of flowers, please silk flowers only.
