Robert L. Burt, 66, of Midland, died Sunday, September 18, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital, Wheeling, WV. Born on May 28, 1956 in Midland, he was the son of Carol (Wilson) Burt and the late Kenneth Burt.
Bob was a 1974 graduate of Valley High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force, SSG, serving from 1974-1985. He was a jet engine technician, working on F100 and A10 jet fighter aircrafts and had been stationed in Texas, Illinois, Germany, England and Myrtle Beach. After an honorable discharge from the US Air Force, he went on to work as a jet engine mechanic in Baltimore. For 23 years he worked for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services as a Correctional Officer in Jessup, MD and then Cresaptown, MD, from where he retired. He was an active member of the Midland Fire Department for 36 years and the Allegany County Fire Police. He was also a member of Midland Grace United Methodist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Bob loved the outdoors, the A10 Warthog Jet, watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, connecting with friends on Facebook, and talking about his time in the service, particularly in Germany.
Together with his mother, Carol (Wilson) Burt of Midland he is also survived by his sister Barbara Burt Cullen and husband Mike of Maineville, Ohio; niece Amy Cullen of Cornelius, NC; nephew Pat Cullen and wife Karissa (children Chase and Gwen) of Morrow, Ohio; and special family Nathan Symons and wife Jenna (children McKenna and Nolan) and Nathan’s mother, Vicki.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, September 26, 2022 from 9:00 AM to Noon at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Midland. A funeral service will follow at Noon with Chaplain Galen Beitzel officiating. A memorial service will be held by the Midland Fire Company. Interment and military honors will be held at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone.
