Robert Michael Turner, 82, of Old Dans Rock Road, Midland died Monday, June 29, 2015 at his residence. Born on October 10, 1932 and raised in Avilton, he was the son of the late Joshua and Adell (Garlitz) Turner and step-father Charles Hanlin.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred I. Turner on September 6, 2004, six brothers, George, Tim, Allen, Bill, Joshua and Frankie and four sisters, Susan “Polly” Wyatt, Kathleen Matt Berich, Mary Russell and Anna Ruth Lloyd. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Robert was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Midland and as a child he was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Avilton. For many years he was the Engineer for the Town of Midland and a self-employed contractor. He owned Turner Apartments, Midland. He was also a lifetime member of the Midland Volunteer Fire Department and the Midland Sportsmans Club “The Patch”. He loved the time he spent at his winter home in Florida but equally enjoyed the countless hours he spent at his camp in Hyndman, PA; which his grandchildren will always know as Pappy Turner’s River. In his spare time he found his passion in cooking and grilling. He also enjoyed playing cards at the fire hall and The Patch and hunting on Old Dans Rock and Avilton. His greatest pastime was the time he spent with his five great-grandsons.
He is survived by his two children, Robert J. Turner and fiancé Shelia Judy of Midland and Ruthie Turner Muir and husband James of Midland; four grandchildren, Jennifer Turner, Matt Turner, Erin Cowan and husband Ben and April Muir; five great-grandchildren, Issac Growden, Carter Knipple, Mason Robert Cowan, Garrett Michael Turner and Bentley Cowan; brother-in-law Robert Lloyd Sr; sister-in-law, Laura Turner and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Midland on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 from 2-5PM. A memorial will be held by the Midland Volunteer Fire Department at 4:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 5:00PM with Deacon Harold Bradley. Interment will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park.
