Robert Kenneth Mason, Sr., 88, a lifelong resident of Lonaconing and former resident of Goodwill Mennonite Assisted Living, Grantsville, MD died Friday, January 8, 2016 at Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing. Born on August 21, 1927 in Lonaconing he was the son of the late John Mason and Emily (McAlpine) Mason.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Monica Logsdon Mason in 2002 , a son RK Mason, his sister Betty Lease and two brothers James “Slim” Mason and John Mason.
Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War, where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars. He was a 1945 graduate of Central High School and earned his Associate Degree from Frostburg State. He retired from Pittsburgh Plate and Glass.
He is survived by two children, Cindy Mason and husband Victor Molinari of Dunedin, FL and Murray Mason of Frederick; four grandchildren, Karilyn Mason, Michael Mason, Caitlin Hawkins and Emily Pearse; one brother, William “Bill” Mason of Rock Hill, SC and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and Friends will be received at on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 10:00 AM- Noon at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. Inurnment will be held at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone. Military Rites will be accorded by Farrady Post #24 American Legion, Frostburg, MD.
