Richard G. McDonald Jr. of Pekin Street, Lonaconing passed away Monday, April 6, 2015 at his residence. He was 71 years young. Born on February 6, 1944, he was the son of the late Richard and Madeline (Vannoy) McDonald .
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley, Sally and Barbara, brother, Holbert and brothers-in-law, Johnnie and Sam.
Mr. McDonald was a veteran of U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War, where he received multiple purple hearts. He loved to go fishing and playing cards, but above anything else he loved his family with all of his heart. To his wife, he was the love of her life and he will always be his children’s hero.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Shelby (Fairgrieve) McDonald; three children, Richard McDonald III and Ashley McDonald at home and Brandy Reynolds and husband Jason of North Carolina; one grandson, Charles Musgrove of Cumberland. Also surviving are his siblings, Shena, Susie, Jackie, Eugene, Randy, Cheryl, Johnnie and Janet, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing next Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 11:00AM with Pastor Rob Culler officiating. Interment will be held at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone. Military Rites will be accorded by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 172, Cumberland.
The family would like to thank the WMRMC Outpatient Dialysis team for the excellent care and compassion they showed Mr. McDonald over the last 3 years. They would also like to thank Dr. Robert Welik for always going above and beyond to take care of our husband and father.
