Richard "Pooch" E. Baer, Sr., 84, a resident of Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing died Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the nursing home where he had been a resident for 15 years. Born February 28, 1926 in Gilmore he was the son of the late Albert Baer and Mary (Leptic) Baer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet (Kerling) Baer on January 12, 1985 and a son Gary Baer.
He was of the Methodist faith. He retired from construction, he was part of the #616 Local Labor Temple, Cumberland. He was a member of the Lonaconing Republican Club, former member of the VFW, Lonaconing, the Lonaconing American Legion and the Redman Club, Westernport.
He is survived by his sons Albert Frederick Baer and wife Rose Ann of Lonaconing and Richard Baer, Jr. of Cumberland; five grandchildren Cody, Albert, Jr., Russell Michael, Melissa and Brenda daughters of Linda Gerlock Baer and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Baer of Baltimore.
At his request he was cremated. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home P.A., Lonaconing (

) with the Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lonaconing.
The family suggest that memorial contributions be made to the Egle Nursing and Rehab Center Activity Fund at 57 Jackson Street, Lonaconing, MD 21539.
