, he was the son of the late Robert Vance
Hunt and Mary
T
ighe Hunt
.
He was preceded in death by three brothers,
Raymond, Richa
r
d and Tom Hunt, and three sisters, Mary "Sis
"
Winters,
Philadelphia
"Delphia" Hyde, and Virginia Schurg.
Bill attended
Beall
High School
, and received a high school diploma. On
June 12th
,
1948
, he married Dorothy Marie Morgan. And from 1952 - 1954, he
served the US Army in the Korean Conflict
.
During his early life, he held a variety of positions. He was employed at
the Lonaconing Silk Mill, Celanese Fiber Corp.
,
Orts Bakery, and was an agent
for Franklin Insurance. He worked as a salesperson for Modern Communications
Electronic Supply and the Stroehmann Bakery where he retired in 1983.
But his
l
ife's work began in 1976, when at the age of 49, he became a
Christian. Within a few months, he was going to the Allegany County Jail with
the Christian B
u
sinessmen's Association
.
When the Stroehmann Bakery
transferred him
t
o
Harrisburg
,
PA
, he worked with the Dolphin County Prison
Ministry. And a
f
ter retiring from the bakery in 1983
,
he started a volunteer
ministry at the Al
l
egany County Jail under the name of the Go Tell John Ministry.
He taught bible school, organized church services in the Garrett County Jail,
started a bible study at the
County
Jail
in
Keyser
,
WV
, and extended his services
to other prisons
i
n Jessup
,
Hagerstown
, Patuxent,
Baltimore
, Moundsville and
Huttonsville.
With his p
r
ison ministry in full swing, he reached out to the Department of
Juvenile Services
,
and was the first volunteer minister for all five of the Youth
Detention Centers.
I
n 1985 he became an ordained minister
.
He gained support
from numerous local churches and with the help of the Western Baptist
Association, he created a Christmas program and regular visitations for every
one of the youth camps. For his tireless service, he received numerous citations,
and was honored as a volunteer and Foster Grandparent at a surprise dedication
of the Hunt Pavi
l
ion at the
Backbone
Mountain
Center
i
n 1993. Since that time,
he has continued to serve as a Chaplain in various churches, prisons
,
youth
detention centers
,
weddings, funerals, and special events.
Mr
.
Hunt was forever grateful for the support that he received from all of
the individuals, churches and organizations that supported his ministry
throughout the years
.
Bill was a former member of the Midland Volunteer Fire Department, a Past Commander
of the Midland American Legion
,
and was consistently involved with the Christian
Businessmen's Association, the Southern Baptist
Mission
Service Corps., and
the Western Baptist Association .
.
He enjoyed gardening, beekeeping, rare rock
collecting, photography, hunting, fishing and gunsmithing
.

his son William David Hunt and special friend

Becky Rephan, and his grandson, Ryan William Hunt who is currently serving in
the US Navy, stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, WA
.
