Raymond Melroy Thrasher Jr., 70, of Railroad Street, Midland died surrounded by family on Thursday, August 4, 2015 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Born on July 23, 1946 in Frostburg he was the son of the late Raymond Melroy Thrasher Sr. and the late Christine (Brodie) Thrasher.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis “Pipty” Barton.
Raymond was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. He was a graduate of Valley High School and retired from Westvaco where he worked in the wood yard. He attended the Midland United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Barton American Legion Post #189 and the Midland Sportsmans Club.
He is survived by his four children, Heather Johnson of Frostburg, Nikki Thrasher of Lonaconing, Katie Thrasher of Midland and Raymond “Bussie” Thrasher III of Cumberland; four grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as “Popsie”, Mariah Johnson, Rashawn Johnson, Skylarr Spiker and Izaak Spiker; one great-grandchild, Kellan Johnson; former wives, Patty “Ginga” Broadwater and Carolyn “Susie” Thrasher; a niece, Cami Martin; special friends, Ann and Mike Spataro, Moes and Lois Cutter and Wiz Foote and all of his buddies at the Midland Fire Hall.
A memorial service will be held at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A. on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 2:00PM with Rev. Daniel Montague officiating. Family and Friends will be received one hour prior at 1:00PM and the Barton American Legion Post #189 will hold a memorial service at 1:45PM. Private Inurnment will be held at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone at a later date.
