Norma Shearer Alexander, 85, formerly of Railroad Street, Midland died Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing. Born on April 29, 1927 in Midland she was the daughter of the late David Shearer and Mary E. (Johnson) Shearer.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Alexander in April of 1981, two sons Robert Alexander, Jr. and David Alexander, three brothers William Shearer, Richard Shearer and infant brother, David Shearer and two sisters, Bertha Green and Isabell McCormick. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Midland. Norma was born to be a nurse and graduated from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. For over 50 years she dispensed her tender loving care to all her patients. Norma worked at several area health care facilities starting her nursing career at Miners Hospital, then Memorial Hospital, Frostburg Village Nursing Home and Egle Nursing Home, as well as private sitting. Norma was also a nurse to her neighbors, taking care of everything from scrapes and cuts to childbirth and CPR. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved to cook for her family, and take the kids for walks on the hills.
She is survived by two children, Craig Alexander and wife Camille of Midland and Sharon Brinkman and husband James of Glenwood, WV; six grandchildren, Amanda Aikens, James Brinkman, Jr., Candi Blair, Robert S. Alexander III, Kayla Alexander and Nick Alexander; five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Sam, Spencer, James III and Slayden and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home P.A. (www.eichhornmckenzie.com), Midland on Monday, October 22, 2012 from 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Harry Burchell officiating. Interment will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank the faculty and staff of the Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing for the excellent care they provided to one of their own as the nursing facility was Norma's home years before she became a patient. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Norma to the Egle Nursing and Rehab Center at 57 Jackson Street, Lonaconing, MD 21539.
