Nina S. McElvie, 96, of Lonaconing died Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Egle Nursing and Rehab Center where she had been a patient for many years. Born September 21, 1913 in Tucker County, WV she was the daughter of the late Oliver Shillingburg and Alice Shillingburg. She would have celebrated her 97th Birthday on Tuesday.
She was preceded in death by her husband James G. McElvie; one son William James McElvie, Sr. and his wife Jean; three sisters, Pearl DeWitt, Polly Weiss and Eula Pratt and one brother Burr Shillingburg.
She was member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing where she was a member of the Women's Circle. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Martha Washington Chapter#10, Lonaconing and the Maplehurst Country Club, Frostburg. She was a homemaker and had spent time as the owner of the Jackson Cable Company, Lonaconing.
She is survived by her grandchildren, William James McElvie, Jr. and wife Debra of Bel Air, Robert Lee McElvie, Sr. and wife Beth of Oldtown and Lisa J. Nicol and husband Rick of Lonaconing; great-grandchildren, Nicole Garner and husband Jeffrey of Florida, Jeffrey McElvie and wife Ashly of Pennsylvania, Christina Mallow and husband Weldon of Oldtown, Robert Lee McElvie, Jr. and wife Alleene of Finzel, Rickey Nicol and wife Starr of Lonaconing, Shelley Nicol, Lonaconing and Janaye Nicol also of Lonaconing; great-great-grandchildren, Caleb, Malayna, London, baby boy Greysen Lee expected in February, Mason, Owen, Grant, Serena and Tanner; a half sister, Carolyn Chadwick of Huntington, WV; numerous nieces and nephews and one special niece, Peg Swauger of LaVale.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 19, 2010 at 6:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing with Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating. Inurnment will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland. Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home P.A. (
