Lloyd Wayne “Red” Smith, 80, a resident of Friends Aware, Cumberland died Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born on April 2, 1938 in Lonaconing he was the son of the late Edgar M. Smith Sr. and Della Mae (Clingerman) Smith.
He was preceded in death by two sisters Loretta Smith and Ada Verneda Kiefer and two brothers Luther G. Smith and Edgar M. “Pete” Smith Jr.
Red was injured in an automobile accident in 1958. He spent most of his adult life in assisted living facilities, the Joseph Brandenburg Center and most recently Friends Aware. Prior to the accident Red worked in Ohio as a machinist for TAPCO. He attended the First Assembly of God, Lonaconing.
He is survived by his sister Leona Clark of Lonaconing; two brothers Kenneth Smith and wife Faye of Barton and Rev. Robert Smith and wife Margaret of Hancock and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 1 -2 PM at the First Assembly of God, Lonaconing. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 2:00 PM with Rev. Harold Smith officiating. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lonaconing.
The family would like to thank the staff of Friends Aware for the love and care provided to Red; they became his second family and greatly improved his quality of life.
