Kenneth Eugene “Hoop” Smith, 82, of Lonaconing died July 6, 2020 at UPMC Western Maryland, after a long illness. He was born April 28, 1938 to the late Thomas and Catherine (Phillips) Smith.
He leaves behind his wife of 45 years Esther Smith, one son; William “Hoop” Smith and significant other Beth Chapman of Lonaconing, one daughter; Krista Llewellyn and husband Jerry of Westernport, three grandchildren; Jordan Duckworth, April Llewellyn and Sarah Chapman, one great grandson; Nicholai Jendras, one sister; Shirley Farrell and husband Bob of Virginia, one brother; John “Jake” Smith and wife Donna of Lonaconing, two sister-in-law’s; Mary Fairgrieve and Marcia Donald, one brother-in-law; Danny Donald and many nieces and nephews.
Hoop was a carpenter by trade. He was a member of Goodwill Fire Company of Lonaconing, the Lonaconing Republican Club and the Midland Sportsman Club.
The family thanks all the doctors and staff at UPMC Western Maryland for their support during this difficult time.
As per his wishes, Hoop will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to First Peoples Federal Credit Union in Kenneth’s name to help with medical costs.
The arrangements are under the care of Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home P.A., Lonaconing.
