John Brode

John Henry Brode, 85 , of Lonaconing, died Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at home. Born October 21, 1932 in Cumberland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Howard and Evelyn (Moore) Brode.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy J. Brode, his brothers, Howard “Bump” Brode, William Brode and Allan Brode, and Grandson, Justin Dilley.

Mr. Brode was a graduate of Central High School and a member of the Central Alumni.  As a young man, Mr. Brode worked for Robert Moses “Lefty” Grove setting duck pins down on Jackson Street.  He served his country in the United States Navy as a structural aviation mechanic. He worked at the B&O Railroad and then worked at Westvaco.  He retired from Westvaco in 1993 after 33 years.  He was a life-time member of the American Legion Post 155 in Westernport.  He loved working on the family genealogy.  His passion for baseball led him to watch his favorite team, the Orioles, play countless games on TV.  He also loved to travel to Altoona, Pennsylvania on the weekends with his wife.

Survivors include his sons, John J. Brode and wife, Lynnette; David L. Brode and wife, Carmen F. Ghinea-Brode "Flori", and Thomas E. Brode; grandchildren: Daniel and Megan Brode; Jennifer Haddock and Lucas Brode; Jacob and Josh Brode, Katlyn Dilley; and 6 great-grandchildren. Brothers: Paul Brode and wife, Norma; Robert Brode and wife, Sadie; Sister, Thelma Goebel and husband, Ernie; Sisters-in-Law, Meriam Brode and Mary Brode; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m.  A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home at 6 p.m. with Rev. Tom Morgan officiating.
