Johanna "Joann" Barnard

Johanna "Joann" Mary Barnard, 82, of Old Beechwood Road, Lonaconing died Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. Born on April 9, 1931 in Frosburg she was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Michaels) Monahan.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Carl Barnard, her sisters Dorothy Dudley and Jewel Monahan, her brothers Edward, William and Harold Monahan, and two nephews Derek Monahan and William "Skip" Henaghan. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Joann was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, Frostburg. She graduated from Beall High School and Catherman's Business School. She worked at Celense Corp. and retired from the Allegany County Board of Education at George's Creek Elementary. She took great pride in her work there and loved the children. Many of them called her grandma and would visit with her.

Mother enjoyed spending time with her family, they were her life. She loved music, dancing and holidays when everyone was together. She was her family's biggest fan and rarely missed church programs, sporting events, dance recitals and drama events that they were involved in.

She is survived by five children, Debbie Hartman and husband Dave of Lonaconing, Gail McCormick and husband Mike of Barton, Bob Barnard and wife Barb of Keyser, Sue Barnard of Lonaconing and Carla Boone of Frostburg; Grandchildren, Tina Blubaugh and husband Eugene, David Hartman, Michelle Green and husband Brian, Michael McCormick and wife Bridget, Christopher Barnard and fiancee Julie, Katie Barnard and husband Matt Buckler and Jackson, Cody and Brett Boone; Great-Grandchildren, Michelle Paitsel and husband Chris, Justin and Samantha Blubaugh, Evan and Adam Green, Carly, Macklin and Lilly McCormick, Emily Fradiska and Riley and Noah Barnard and Great-Great-Grandchildren, Kristen and Klarissa Paitsel and Ava Johanna Blubaugh, her namesake.

She is also survived by her special niece and nephews, Sondra Ritchie, Dennis Monahan, Eddie and Sam Dudley, Terry McElvenny and their numerous children and grandchildren and her friends and neighbors, they were always there for her when she needed them.

Family and friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing on Sunday, July 7, 2013 from 1:00 - 3:30 PM. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 3:30 PM with Father Ed Hendricks and Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating. Interment will be held at Mt. View Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, David Hartman, Michael McCormick, Christopher Barnard, Justin Blubaugh, Evan Green and Jackson Boone; with honorary pallbearers being, Macklin McCormick, Adam Green, Cody Boone, Brett Boone and Noah Barnard.

At the request of the family memorial donations may be made to the George's Creek Promotional Council at 76 Main Street, Lonaconing, MD 21539 for the Library Fund.
