Jo Sloan

Jo Ann Sloan, 85, of Lonaconing died Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing. Born on March 7, 1936 in Lonaconing she was the daughter of the late Leo Joseph Carter Sr. and Josephine Marie (Knapp) Carter.

She was preceded in death by two siblings, Sandy Smith and Leo Carter Jr.

Jo Ann was a 1954 graduate of Valley High School. She continued her education at Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1957.  She retired in 1999 from St. Vincent de Paul, Frostburg after many years as a dedicated nurse. Throughout her career she was also employed at Frostburg Community Hospital, McCready Memorial Hospital in Crisfield and Brady Health Center at Frostburg State University. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling with her husband, planting flowers and doing crossword puzzles.

She leaves behind her beloved husband of 44 years, Melvin Gary Sloan; two sisters, Patty Russell and husband Butch and Kelly Gough and husband Dave all of Lonaconing and niece and nephews, Kathy Ansel, Mark Smith, Chris Smith and Shawn Russell.

Services will be held privately at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lonaconing.
