James Elmer Welch III, 74, of Cresap Street, Cumberland died Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Lions Manor, Cumberland. Born on May 29, 1944 in Cumberland he was the son of the late James Elmer Welch II and Ester Virginia (Stewart) Welch.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Mary (Baier) Welch, step-son, John Baier and his best buddies, dogs Bandit and Jack.
James was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving for six years before joining the Air National Guard for four years. He worked for PPG for many years before working at Sacred Heart Hospital; he worked various positions before retiring from security. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and riding motorcycles in his free time.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wilda Welch; seven step-children, Betsy Day who was very special to Jim and husband Andy of Cumberland, Eric Baier and wife Nancy of FL, Jimmy Baier and wife Lila of PA, Jeannie Fuente and husband Brian of Lonaconing, Wilda Grady and fiancé Doug Peebles of Frostburg, Tammy Grady of Lonaconing and Robert Grady and wife Crystal of Frostburg; 12 grandchildren, including a special grandson Andrew and 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jane Brown and Joann Wagner both of FL and several nieces and nephews.
At his request Jim will be cremated and no services will be held. Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, PA, Lonaconing assisted the family.
The family would like to thank all of those who took special care of Jim at Lions Manor, RNs, LPNs, CNAs and Dr. Shakil.
