James Melvin Cameron, Sr., 78, of Frostburg died Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Frostburg Nursing and Rehab Center where he had been a patient since July. He had lived at Valley View Apartments, Frostburg for the past twelve years. Born January 14, 1933 in Lonaconing he was the son of the late James Albert Cameron and Eleanor Louise (Phillips) Cameron Brodie.
He was preceded in death by both mothers of his children, one son Melvin, two grandsons John Dye and Bill Dye and one sister Betty Anne Llewellyn.
James retired from Foodland in Grantsville, MD but had worked previously in the orange orchards in Florida, the apple orchards in Charlestown, WV and in the mines at Bayard, WV.
He is survived by five sons and six daughters, James Cameron, Jr. and wife Lisa of Kent Island, MD, Hugh Cameron and wife Cindy of Laurel, MD, Donnie Cameron of Hagerstown, MD, Michael Cameron also of Hagerstown, MD, David Cameron of Keyser, WV, Ruth Ann Walker and husband Frank of Frostburg, MD, Delores Wilhelm and husband Mike of Lonaconing, MD, Lois Whetstone also of Lonaconing, MD, Linda Snyder and husband Joe of Frostburg, MD, Brenda Dye and husband Bill of Midlothian, MD and Penny Cameron of Oakland, MD; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Dave Cameron and wife Joan of Westernport, MD; one sister, Carolee Crawford husband Dick of Lonaconing, MD and a special friend, Theresa Christ of Frostburg, MD.
At his request he will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at God's Ark of Safety, Frostburg on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 7:00 PM with Rev. Everett Spence, officiating. Friends and family will be received one hour prior to the service at 6:00 PM. Inurnment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lonaconing at a later date.
