Irvin Thomas Morgan, Jr. of Lonaconing and Frostburg passed away on Tuesday, August 05, 2014, at home after a brief battle with cancer.
Born November 20, 1937 in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Irvin T. and Mabel V. (Leatherman) Morgan Sr. He was also preceded in death by his sister Jean I. Symons.
Irvin was a graduate of Beall High School, Frostburg. He served in the National Guard, the Army Long Line Signal Corps in Korea, and the Army Reserves.
Irvin retired from Frostburg State University Housekeeping Department after twenty-seven years.
Irvin was a great sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors. He looked forward to spending time at his camp on the South Branch of the Potomac River with his river buddies.
Irvin made life-long friends because of his sense of humor, his caring nature, and willingness to help others at any time.
Irvin is survived by his wife, Dona L. (Stafford) Morgan. His sons Rodney W. Morgan, wife Karla, and their children, Donna Jean and Justin of Frostburg; Raymond T. Morgan and his daughter Britney Morgan of New Gallilee, PA; his daughter Brenda L. Crites of Cumberland and her children Krista, Tommy, Matt, Samantha, Taylor, and Jordan, and their children Madison, AniBeth, Summer, and Decklin; his brother Fred and wife Judi Morgan of Delaware; his sister Anna Bittinger of Cumberland; his step-son Christopher and his wife Barb Cantafio and their children Hannah, Kayla, and Megan of LaVale; step-daughter Jill Cantafio and her significant other Bradley Mongold of Martinsburg, WV; his sister-in-law Roz Kienhofer and her husband Kevin of Cresaptown. He is additionally survived by many nieces and nephews. Irvin is also survived by his special buddy, his dog Rascal, who stood guard at his bedside during his final illness.
Family and friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 3-8PM. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating. Inurnment will be held at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone. Military Rites will be accorded by Combined Honor Guard #13, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, Irvin’s family requests that donations be made in his memory to: The Rosenbaum Family House, 30 Family House Drive, Morgantown, WV 26506 who made it possible for his family to stay with him during his extended hospitalization; Hospice of WMHS as Irvin and his family were very appreciative of their care and support, especially Ann, Barb, and Morgan; or to George’s Creek Ambulance Service.
