Emma Jean Matthews, 78, of Moscow, MD, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at her residence. Born on February 10, 1933 in Moscow she was the daughter of the late Sampson and Charlotte (Beeman) Muir of Moscow. Emma Jean is finally at peace and heaven with her loving husband Robert Leroy "Fantail" Matthews who passed away July 8, 1996.
She was also preceded in death by her five brothers, C. Sampson Muir, Robert L. Muir, C. Leon Muir, James "Motto" Muir, and Michael R. Muir and four sisters, Charlotte Getson, Margaret Beeman, Ellen Beeman, Elizabeth Dohm.
Emma Jean was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the Barton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed going to the George's Creek Senior Center where she spent quality time with her friends. She also enjoyed the holidays spent with her families.
Emma Jean is survived by a special nephew and niece Michael R. Muir and wife Joyce of Frostburg and Janell Lamberson and husband Shane of Lonaconing. Emma Jean and "Fantail" loved Michael and Janell like their own children, and they will miss her very much. She is also survived by one sister, Norma L. Getson of Conneaut, OH and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 5:00 PM with the Pastor Sandy Cowan officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service from 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Inurnment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Barton United Methodist Church at 18917 Legislative Road, S.W., Barton, Maryland 21521.
