Ellsworth Vernon Green, 98, of Lonaconing died Friday, September 1, 2017 at WMHS Frostburg Nursing and Rehab Center, Frostburg. Born on December 11, 1918 in Barton he was the son of the late Ira Oscar Green and Elizabeth Jane (Robertson) Green.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth (Klipstein) Green on May 14, 1999 and two sisters, Lois A. Clark and Bonnie L. Warnick.
Ellsworth was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He joined on June 28, 1941 and served in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He was discharged on September 24, 1945 after serving 4 years, 3 months and 27 days.
In December of 1945 Ellsworth went back to work at the Celanese Company. In 1952 he became a machinist at the Piedmont Foundry and Machine Company. He also worked at Allegany Ballistic and the Allegany Instrument Company for years as a machinist. During the end of his career he returned back to Celanese for 16 more years before retiring in December of 1980.
He was member of the Barton United Methodist Church. He was also a Lifetime Member of Barton American Legion Post#189; where he was one of the fifteen original charter members.
During his retirement years he was an avid fisherman on the Savage River Dam, New Germany Dam and the Savage River Stream.
He is survived by two brothers, Darius L. Green and wife Ella Lee of Barton and Charles R. Green of Barton; several nieces and nephews and a special niece Helena Tomick and son Mark Tomick.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 from 10:00AM-Noon at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing. A memorial service will be held by the Barton American Legion Post#189 at 11:00AM. A funeral service will immediately follow at Noon with Deacon Harold Bradley officiating. Interment will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.wilhelmeakin.com.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made in honor of Ellsworth to the Barton American Legion Post#189 at 19008 Legion Road, Barton, MD 21521.
