Edward E. Evans, 66, of Cumberland passed away on Thursday, January 29 at the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing following his battle with Multiple Myeloma Cancer.
Born on August 21, 1948 and raised in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Benjamin H. Evans, Jr. and Helen Evans Stickel. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard A. Evans.
Ed was a 1966 graduate of Valley High School. He worked as a laborer for 28 years with the Laborers Local #616.
He started shooting clay birds at the age of 13 and continued that hobby throughout the years. He served as President of the Lonaconing Trap Club until it was closed. He made many trips competing in the Grand National Shooting Tournament in Ohio as well as many other shooting events. Ed was a member of the National Rifle and the Amateur Trap Associations. Trap shooting was his passion.
Ed was well known for his visits to the Cumberland Country Club Mall, where many friendships had been developed.
Ed is survived by on brother, Benjamin H. Evans III and wife Nancy L. of Lonaconing; nephews, Ben Evans, Jesse Evans of Lonaconing, Dave Evans and Tom Evans and wife Elaine of Columbus, OH; a sister-in-law, Nancy K. Evans of Columbus, OH and an uncle, Alec Evans of Lonaconing.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Khanna, Western Maryland Hospice Program and Egle Nursing Home for their care and support during Ed's illness.
Family and friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing on Monday, February 2, 2015 from 3-6PM. A funeral service will be held immediately following the receiving of family and friends at 6:00 PM with Rev. Ken Fisher, assistant Pastor of the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene.
