Edith (Lucas) Bobo

Edith Marie (Lucas) Bobo, 91, of Lonaconing, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at the Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing.

Born March 6, 1919, in McCanie, Va., she was the daughter of the late Russell Oliver Miller and Clara Virgie (Craig) Miller. She was also preceded in death by her husbands Wilson Whitmer, Robert Oliver Lucas, and Albert Bobo and son, Beverly Woodson Whitmer. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Edith lived in Mexico Farms, Cumberland, for many years, was a member of Davis Memorial UMC and was active with the “Apple Butter Group” and WSCS.  She lived in “Coney” for over 35 years. She was member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing, where she was an elder, spent twelve years as the eldest deacon of the church and was a member of the Esther/Miriam Circle.  Edith was an employee of Memorial Hospital, she worked in Central Service and Supply. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens of Lonaconing and Georges Creek Homemakers. For the last two years, Edith lived in Cumberland with her daughter, Jeanne, and family.

She is survived by her children, Charles Miller, of Buckeystown, Wanda Marie Thorpe, of Warrenton, Va., D. Jeanne Starkey, of Cumberland and Barbara Ann Mathias, of Mathias, W.Va.; and grandchildren, Cereasa Tyeryar, Dennis Miller, Charlene Miller, David Whitmer, Kimberly Simmon, Jeffrey Thorpe, Michael Thorpe, Terri Lyn Engnoth, Trina Ann Jackson, David Aydelotte Jr., Drew Aydelotte, Christa Hoffman, and Bethani Stewart. She also had 20 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Edith was known to all of her grandchildren as "Grammie" except Andi who called her "Meme".  She was an avid gardener and bird watcher.  She never missed sending special cards to all of her friends and relatives.

Family and friends will be received at the Eichhorn-Mc-Kenzie Funeral Home P.A. ( www.eichhornmckenzie.com ) on Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, from Monday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8.

A funeral service will be conducted the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating.

Interment will be held at Davis Memorial Cemetery, Cumberland.
