Donald Edward Smith, 78, of Paradise Street, Midland died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Born in Bittinger, MD on November 23, 1935 he was the son of the late Lester Vernon Smith and Mabel (Brenneman) Engle Smith.
He was a member of the Midland Grace United Methodist Church, where he was very involved. He retired as a pipe fitter from Westvaco Corporation in 2000.
Donald joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1958 and retired in 1986 as a Lt. Colonel. He was a lifetime member of the Oakland American Legion, Post #71. He had served as past Company Commander for Frostburg, Oakland and Cumberland Armories. He also spent time at the Havre de Grace and Morgantown Armories.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sandra (Wilson) Llewellyn Smith; two children, Kevin Llewellyn of Frostburg and Melissa Llewellyn of Lonaconing; his two little men, Ethan and Dravin Llewellyn; a brother, Robert Smith and wife Mary Lou of Bittinger and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Midland on Thursday, September 25, 2014 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM. A funeral service will be held at Midland Grace United Methodist Church on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Daniel Montague officiating. Interment will be held at Mt. View Cemetery, Moscow Mills, MD. Military Rites will be accorded byOakland American Legion, Post #71.
Pallbearers will be Mike Spataro, Jack Baker, Ed Stafford, Bob Riley, Ben Preston and Denzil Halbritter.
