Claude Thomas Steele, 74, of Midway Drive, Moscow died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Born on April 11, 1942 in Lonaconing he was the son of the late Claude Steele and Alice (Devlin) Steele.
He was preceded in death by three siblings, Billy, Claudine and Terry Steele Sr.
Claude was a 1960 graduate of Valley High School. Since the age of 18 he was a self-employed school bus contractor and had owned numerous dump trucks. He had also transported Celanese employees by van till their closing and had worked for Buffalo Coal Company as a supervisor. He loved bluegrass music and enjoyed attending festivals. He was a member of the Western Maryland Railroad Historical Society and he shared this passion with his grandson Jonathan. They would travel together exploring various historical train destinations.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years Joan (Schriver) Steele; a daughter, Ann M. Steele and fiancé Rob Goebel of Midland; three grandchildren, Jeremiah Lafferty, Jonathan Lafferty and Alicen Steele; extended family, Sam, Ethan and Lilly Goebel; a sister, Anna Jean Bohrer of Frostburg Village Nursing Home and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 10:00AM St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Midland with Father Eric Gauchat, OFM Cap, celebrant. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
