Bruce Brain Simmons, Sr., 72, of Wood Street, Frostburg died Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Born April 23, 1938 in Midlothian he was the son of the late Thomas Parker and Lena W. (Brain) Simmons.
He was a member of the Shaft Methodist Church and a member of the National Guard for 9 years. He was also Past President of the Frostburg Food Pantry (Ship). He retired from the Celanese Fiber Corp. Cumberland, where he was a pipe fitter.
He is survived by his wife Betty L. McClure Simmons; four children, Sheila Diggs of Pekin, Carla McLaughlin and husband Robert of Frostburg, Bruce Simmons, Jr. and wife Melissa of Woodland and Sheryl Diehl and husband Bryan of Frostburg; eight grandsons, Bruce Simmons, III, Steven Diggs, Jr., Christopher Diehl, Derek Simmons, W. Elliott Simmons, Samuel Diggs, Russell Diehl and Zachery McLaughlin and three granddaughters, Amanda Kucharczyk, Cheri Baker and Rachel Diehl; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Sylvia Barnett of Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing; one brother, Robert Simmons and wife Bernadette of Chesapeake, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.

), Midland on Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Harry Burchell officiating. Family and friends will be received prior to the service at 10:00 AM. Interment will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg.
Pallbearers will be his eight grandsons and five honorary pallbearers will be Harold Skidmore, Scott Simmons, Dale Hawkins, William Barnett and Travis Jackson.
