Bruce P Duckworth, 66, beloved brother of Marsha Duckworth Blair, passed peacefully into the waiting
arms of his parents, Margie Kitzmiller Duckworth and husband, Price Wesley Duckworth, July 27, 2022.
He was born August 23, 1955.
Bruce suffered from cerebral palsy as an infant. Throughout his life, he never fed himself, never bathed
himself, never dressed himself, and could not speak. Even with these disabilities, he shared a
remarkable life of love with his caregivers.
Bruce and Price spent many hours with Bruce’s favorite pastime, people watching at the mall court after
Price’s retirement from the pulp mill. He enjoyed afternoon rides with his mother. Most off all, he
loved to watch “I Love Lucy,” and would often burst out laughing even before the punch line because he
had watch them so much.
When his father became ill and had to move to a nursing home, his mother cared for Bruce until her
passing. At that time, Bruce became a resident of the Council for Exceptional Adults group home. He
has lived in their group homes for the past 16 years.
The care given by this exception team of caregivers through his remaining years deserves so many
thanks. Years were spent with caregiver Les Robinson, who would keep Bruce by his side while working,
watch tv and baseball games, until Bruce would nod off asleep on his shoulder. Dale Weir, the home’s
manager, has lost a brother and best friend We cannot say enough about the care and nurturing Dale,
and his team, have given Bruce through the years. We will forever be indebted.
Bruce is survived by his sister Marsha and husband Jim, Greenville NC; nephew John Wesley Blair and
wife Suzy, also of Greenville; twin nieces Becky Cunningham and husband, Matt, Raleigh NC and Beth
Skains and husband Mark, Greensboro NC. He has seven great nieces and nephews
