Betty Dawson

Betty M. Dawson, 84, of Lonaconing, Maryland passed away November 21, 2018, with her husband, the love of her life, by her side. She was born to the late Henry Milford and Helen “Nellie” (Stakem) Milford, September 12, 1934, in Lonaconing.

She was preceded in death by her brother John Henry Milford and her sister Jean Shirley Goshorn.

Betty graduated from Central High School in 1951 and attended Catherman’s Business School in Cumberland, Maryland. She was an accomplished pianist and taught piano for many years.  She found spiritual enjoyment as the church organist for the First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing and enjoyed playing the piano for family sing-a-longs.  She passed her appreciation of music to her children.  She worked at the Kelly-Springfield Auto Service, Inc. and the Donald B. Rice Tire Company.  Along with her husband, Betty was a long-time volunteer with the George’s Creek Ambulance Service, Inc. and held the position of financial secretary for many years.

Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, James W. Dawson, Sr., their three children: Nancy Beeman and husband, Steve, of Elkton, VA; James W. Dawson, Jr. and wife, Suzanne, of North Potomac, MD; and Betty L. Gum and husband, Ronald, of Woodbridge, VA, ten grandchildren,  Dawn Conley, Stephanie Dean, Clinton Beeman, Greg Byers, Brittany Dawson, Danielle Rotbert, Jamie Rotbert, Brandon Gum, Eric Gum and Matthew Gum,  five great-grandchildren, Lily, Caylee, Aaron, Grace and Avery.  She is also survived by her sister Nancy Davis and husband, Charles, of Burke, VA and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lonaconing.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the George’s Creek Ambulance Service, Inc. at P.O. Box 155, Lonaconing, MD 21539-0155.
