Barbara Fickes

Barbara Fickes, 74, of Sterling Care Nursing Home, Frostburg, died Thursday, June 8, 2023 at UPMC Western Maryland, Cumberland. Born on March 9, 1949 she was the daughter of the late Carl Thomas and Nellie (Beeman) Thomas.

She was also preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Jack Matthews and her brother, Timothy Thomas.

Barbara was a 1967 graduate of Valley High School. She worked for HRDC as a driver’s aid for 26 years. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Cherryl Matthews of Lonaconing; granddaughters, Takeya Andrick and husband Michael of Cumberland and Tiffany Nicol of Frostburg; great-grandchildren, Carlton Troutman, Aron Custer, Brent Saweikis, Jerry Andrick, Joshua Nicol, Jenson Nicol and Corbin Nicol and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow Mills with Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating. Wilhelm-Eakin Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing is handling the arrangements.
