She is survived by her three children

Melvin Gary and wife JoAnn

Donald Wayne
and wife Jane
,
and Inez Denise Hunt. Three grandchildren
,
Stephan

husband Paul
,
Melinda Graham and husband John
,
and Ryan Hunt
;
and four great-grandchildren
,
Jesse
,
John
,
Emma
,
and Rachel Graham, and a Primro

e baby to be born
in January. Her sister

Inez J. Neff
,
and brother
,
Amel Muir, survive her.
A lifelong resident of Lonaconing
,
Audrey attended elementary school in Nikep and
high school at Central High in Lonaconing. She worked at the Celanese Corporation in
Cresaptown until her children were born. Thereafter, she worked in various food service
positions at King's Department store
,
Miracle Mart
,
and finally for the Board of
Education at
Valley
High School
. She retired in 1986 from the Board of Education after
16 years service.
Audrey was very active in her church and community. She was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church of Lonaconing since 1955
,
serving as a Deacon and an Elder. She
was a charter member of the Miriam fellowship circle which began in 1958. She served
as the CROP for Hunger treasurer for the George's Creek area for o
v
er 20 years. Mrs.
Sloan has been a 54
y
ear member of the Martha Washington chapter of the Order of the
Eastern Star
,
joining in1956. She held each of the offices until becoming Worthy Matron
in 1966. Thereafter
,
she became Grand Chaplain of the stat
e
of
Maryland
in 1967 and
Grand Representative to
Manitoba
,
Canada
for two
y
ears
.
She served as Worthy Matron
again in 1989. While in

ol
v
ed with Eastern Star
,
Audrey was acti
v
e in many fundraisers
,
including leading the effort to produce and sell hard tack candy. She also held a
membership in the Past Matrons and Patrons organization. She was a 46 year member of
the Morning Star Temple Pythian Sister
s,
joining in 1963. She served as Most Excellent
Chief and was a Past District Deputy
.
Audrey
had been an active member of the
local American Association of Retired People and belonged to the Lonaconing Senior
Citizens. She loved to dance and traveled with the Frostburg Seniors when they
performed line dances.
Audrey was a loving and devoted wife, mother
,
sister
,
and friend. She enjoyed people
and never met a stranger. She would always pitch in if someone needed help
,
whether
her children
,
her chu
r
ch
,
or her community. She loved her children
,
grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren dearly
,
cooking dinners
,
att

nding sports events
,
and taking an active
part in their li
v
es. She lo

ed to dance and

ould often be found on the weekends with

iends dancing. She was the heart of her famil

and will be greatly
missed.

A funeral service will be held Monday, September 20, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing with Rev. Thomas Morgan officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at
