Allen "Sonny" James Morton, 81, of Lower Georges Creek Road, Lonaconing died on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing. Born on September 1, 1931 in Knapps Meadow he was the son of the late Allen Morton and Thelma Clara (Yates) Morton.
Sonny was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Midland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in the Korean War. He retired from Westvaco after 37 years of working in the calendar room. Sonny was known for his kindness, generosity and humility. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, traveling and always looked forward to spending his winters in Florida. Above all things Sonny loved his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Fay (Thrasher) Morton; his two sons, Rick Morton and wife Kelley of Dayton, OH and Randy Morton and wife Glenda of Midland; four grandchildren, Mandi Morton of Midland, Luke Morton and wife Krissy of Frostburg, Sam Morton and wife Cassie of Dayton, OH and Joe Morton of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Brody Van Meter of Midland, Grant Allen Morton of Frostburg and Henry Morton of Dayton, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Midland on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, Midland on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Harry Burchell and Rev. Blaine Blubaugh officiating. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of the Egle Nursing and Rehab Center for the excellent care provided to Sonny.
